Why am I talking about two different fighting franchises? Because they are about to go head-to-head in a video game crossover for the ages. Unfortunately it never quite could but in recent years it has made a comeback. Killer Instinct came along in 1994 to try and knock MK off it’s pedestal and claim the fighting arena crown. But MK wasn’t the only fighting game to take gamers by storm. Spending hours on my Super NES to perfect combo moves and figured out finish moves that would shock and awe your friends.Īll these years later Mortal Kombat is still alive and kicking with an ever expanding and awesome roster. Obviously it was a video game so it was targeted toward kids. I remember being in middle school and it was a HUGE deal that a video game that showed blood and violence in such detail. Since Ed Boon and Phil Spencer have both shown interest in a crossover title before, many fans are hoping to see an MK vs. Combining the over the top violence of Mortal Kombat and the fast-past combo system found in Killer Instinct could lead to one of the best and most brutal fighting experiences of the decade. It's like the two games were destined for a crossover title. Mortal Kombat and Killer Instinct go together like bread and butter. This edgy character design wouldn't work well in any other mainstream fighting franchise besides Mortal Kombat and Killer Instinct. Every character from each game also has a morbid and gritty style about them, which separates them from other fighters in other rival franchises. Having iconic Mortal Kombat characters like Lui Kang or Kitana face off against renowned Killer Instinct fighters like Jago or Orchid would be epic. Many of the characters could fit in either game perfectly. Both Mortal Kombat and Killer Instinct feature darker characters than most other fight game franchises.
